‘Death Panels’: Here’s the Deal

In Can You Hear Me Now?, Obamacare, Obamarama on 22/03/2011 at 18:55

That little ditz Sarah Palin was right again. Just when you were convinced he didn’t want to give granny an early sendoff to the Big Sayonara, Barack’s other shoe drops. Death panels are here.

Whether you call it an end-of-life counseling contingency or a mandatory Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB), death panels are a cleverly hidden reality within the trillion-dollar government snafu we all affectionately know as ObamaCare. In fact, end of life counseling—perhaps a better term is “end-of-life lotto”—isn’t the half of it.

Even some Democrats are jumping ship on this one.

The Daily Caller:

An often-overlooked portion of President Barack Obama’s prized health care law, the creation of the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB), will face heat in the coming months from Congress and from the courts. Congressman Phil Roe, Tennessee Republican, told The Daily Caller the IPAB is the “real death panel” in the health care law, as compared to “end-of-life counseling” provisions in Obamacare that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin once deemed “death panels.”

“This one is the real baby right here – and most people missed this,” Roe told TheDC. “What everybody was talking about, when you saw Sarah Palin and so forth, what they were talking about these advanced directives where you sit down and there’s sort of mandatory counseling – and Medicare paid for it. This IPAB got missed – and it’s the real death panel.”

In his exclusive interview in today’s DC, Congressman Coe, who is a medical doctor, goes onto say that the IPAB will cap total sums Medicare recipients can receive for care, and thus make decisions based purely on cost rather than need options.

Palin has been lambasted in the media for months on end since 2009 when she warned the nation that the President’s takeover of national health care would result in what essentially amounts to death panels. The blogosphere is still loaded with slanderous lies.

Palin was speaking of the so-called “end of life counseling” panels, but the congressman is talking about another board that will essentially accomplish the same end; i.e. kill off seniors and others with “low quality of life” prospects by denying essential care.

Both schemes are still embedded within the bowels of ObamaCare.

The intent here is self-evident. While Democrats in Congress would like you to believe that Nanny State governance will put you on the road to cheaper insurance rates, it in fact will put you on the gurney to a Margaret Sanger-style liquidation mill. What’s next, “Soylent Green”?

Be assured, this is not the end of it. When the lid finally comes off ObamaCare it will be rife with “quality of life” panels and boards, all designed to give you a quick sendoff in your twilight years.

Jackson Lee Staffer: ‘We Would Never Leave A Knife Around When The Congresswoman Was Here’

In Can You Hear Me Now?, Civil Lefts, Weekly Rant on 02/03/2011 at 18:46

Jonathan Strong’s seven-page exposé of Sheila Jackson Lee’s fabled sadistic histrionics in today’s Daily Caller shouldn’t have come as a surprise. For those who don’t remember, Jackson Lee is the representative from Houston who stood casually chitchatting on her cell phone last summer, ignoring one of her constituent’s questions about the new health care bill, at a town hall meeting. She later repeated the insult on Fox News’ On the Record with Greta Van Susteren.

That arrogant behavior is tame in comparison to Strong’s research on the eight-term congresswoman’s record in office. But the journalist’s allegations that Jackson Lee sadistically browbeats her staffers, repeatedly calling them by abusive and crude term is disturbing on a whole new level.

Writes Strong:

The Houston Democrat addressed one of her employees as “you stupid motherfucker.” And not just once, but “constantly,” recalls the staffer, “like, all the time.” … For some, a job in Jackson Lee’s office proved not just emotionally but physically perilous. One staffer recalls a frank conversation with his doctor, who told him he needed to quit. “It’s your life or your job,” the doctor told him, warning that the stress and long hours were wreaking havoc on his body.

Sheila Jackson Lee’s history of incompetence in Congress is legendary. She is notoriously uninformed: In 1997, the then second-term representative from Houston asked a NASA scientist if the Mars Pathfinder had photographed the flag that Neil Armstrong had left behind. The flag was, of course, planted on the moon.

Last year the congresswoman hilariously insisted that, “Today, we have two Vietnams; side-by-side, North and South, exchanging and working. We may not agree with all that North Vietnam is doing, but they are living in peace … ”

Then when anyone deigns to point out her errors she accuses them of racism. In fact, Jackson Lee is a world-class race baiter, hurling accusations at every given opportunity.

Of course Jackson Lee wouldn’t be the first dummy to repeatedly win a seat in Congress or the Senate. Even the fact that she is a race-baiter isn’t shocking when one recalls the other members of Congress who have pulled the race card, even as recently as last summer.

Strong sums up his article:

Not surprisingly, Jackson Lee has one of the highest staff turnover rates in Washington. Over the last ten years, at least 39 staffers have left within one year. Over that time, Lee has employed at least nine chiefs of staff, eight legislative directors, and 18 schedulers or executive assistants, according to records of federal disclosure forms published by the website Legistorm. Nine staffers left within two months, 25 within 6 months.

GOP Must Stop Obama’s Centrist Ploy

In Bowling for Dollars, Can You Hear Me Now?, Obamarama on 08/01/2011 at 08:35

Now that we have a new “moderate” chief of staff in the White House can we please throw out that ugly freaking prayer rug Obama stands in front of when he speaks? Where did they get that thing, Mozambique? It looks like leftover material from one of Michelle’s fashion disasters.

Calling William Daley a more moderate chief than Rahm Emanuel is like calling Frank Nitti a more moderate gangster, after Capone went to prison. “Machinegun deaths were down 50 percent this week, since the new Nitti administration … “ Chicago’s Daley family has run one of the most corrupt machines in U.S. political history.

The media is ramping up for a big gushing love affair with this man as Barack Obama’s new chief of staff, and some Republicans are on board. What we are seeing here is the pseudo-metamorphosis of Obama from left-wing ideologue to centrist, and, quite frankly, I don’t trust the GOP not to buy into it hook, line and sinker. Daley isn’t moderate; he is simply clever.

If Daley is the moderate he claims to be, why was he on board with Obama from the beginning of his 2008 campaign? He was Bill Clinton’s Commerce Secretary, it would stand to reason he would have upped with Team Hillary. No, Daley is perceived as a moderate because his Wall Street cronyism serves that purpose.

This is an extremely dangerous moment for the GOP in Washington. They must not allow the President to succeed in this ploy. The temptation to compromise in order to move the wheels of government for the sake of moving government will be hard to resist, but they must play it close to the chest and force the President’s hand on critical issues.

For a truly ideological president, the first term should be a textbook set up; he would play along, chipping away at the edges through a first term, set themselves up as a good administrator, and lower the boom in the second term. But Obama leftist naïveté would not allow him to play smart. He had promised too much to the Left. Health Care, cap and trade, the 9-11 terrorists, and a host of far left regulatory moves revealed his true colors almost from the moment he stepped through the door to the White House.

Obama’s first term created a stepping stone for the GOP to win in 2010, but it does not necessarily follow that they can have a return performance in 2012.

As President, Barack Obama has been a political neophyte. In private life he wouldn’t possess the skills to assistant manage a Burger King, but he would be great at talking himself into the job. And that is exactly what he intends to do with Bill Daley’s help, in the next two years.

The GOP has not been known in recent years for sharp negotiating but they are not going to get a second chance. Sarah Palin sent a warning shot over John McCain’s bow today and he and his colleagues in the House and Senate would do well to listen.

It will take great skill on the part of the GOP to defeat Obama in 2012, and it is not a matter of inking the right Washington yes man for the job. If they are to win, they must win the chess game in Congress, here and now.
