O’Reilly-Obama Super Bowl Interview: Yawn

In Disappearing Ink, Harvard Math, Obamarama on 07/02/2011 at 18:29

If we had any doubts about Barack Obama’s determination to exert his will over the American people, whether they like it or not, they vanished in his token interview with Bill O’Reilly last night. Thank God the Green Bay Packers didn’t let me down.

O’Reilly promised a no-holds-barred interview with questions we have not heard before. Maybe, if we wanted to know about Obama’s pick in the Super Bowl game. The fact is we learned absolutely nothing new.

The President is not backing down an inch on Obamacare and he is positive the American people really want it. Which is exactly what he said all summer long when tea parties were marching the streets telling him to get his hands off their pocketbooks. And of course he was also still non compos mentis on the Islamic threat with both the current Egypt situation, as well as Iran.

The rest of the interview was typical Chicago southside homeboy flimflam and nothing more. Apparently O’Reilly is saving a couple of tidbits for tonight’s broadcast but they better be real zingers because last night sucked. I was expecting to hear O’Reilly say, “How about that Elena Kagan?” any minute.

Of course the Left is promoting this as gritty, raw edged stuff—Obama in the Lion’s Den—ha! ha! Which is good fluff for the President’s “I’m a moderate, I’ve always been a moderate” campaign moving into the 2012 election cycle.

In fairness to the Factor host, though, he hardly had time to get his seat warm before Babu was off to the pregame party. The President is masterful at running out the clock on interviews and he did a better job on Bill than I expected.

There is a scary element to all of this. Polls do not reflect widespread public outrage at Obama’s juggernaut-like move to own the U.S. economy. Granted the tea parties gained major traction on health care last summer, but health care is merely one aspect of a multi-pronged attack on our freedoms.

While it may be tempting to chuckle about Michelle Obama’s intrusion into national nutrition, we will shortly be paying more for less at restaurants due to the First Sister’s pressure on the National Restaurant Association to reduce portion sizes in children’s meals.

There is virtually no area of American life that this administration has not attempted to regulate in one-way or another. Can’t you just see the Happy Meals flying off the shelves once McDonald’s replaces French fries with apple slices?

What is perhaps most disturbing after an interview like this is that Republicans on the Hill gave O’Reilly little fodder with which to pin Obama down.

Does anyone in the GOP have the balloons to hold this president’s feet to the fire on the issues, or are we simply going to see more bipartisan BS in coming days?

The mainstream party leadership is petrified at the idea of Sarah Palin gaining steam going into the new year, but so far she is literally the only one in the entire Republican apparatus who is attacking the guy head on.
