Tea Party Should Take On Green Energy Next

In Bowling for Dollars, Harvard Math, Obamarama on 04/02/2011 at 18:45

Just how “green” do you want your environment? How about $8.00 a gallon worth of green? Or $10.00? How about $15.00 for a loaf of bread and $20.00 for a gallon of milk? How much is too much to pay for what is at best unproven science, at worst outright fraud?

Odds are you probably don’t want that much green energy. If you are like me, you don’t mind conserving fuel but you don’t want the government telling you what automobile you can or cannot drive.

So why are we allowing a few Washington bureaucrats and an incompetent sport’s junkie president tell us exactly that?

Just this week a handful of native Alaskans and unelected federal regulators blocked another attempt by U.S. oil producers to do exploratory drilling in the Arctic off the coast Alaska. The area is “environmentally sensitive.”

How many people live in the U.S. Arctic? How many people will ever even see the U.S. Arctic? Just how important are the seal and polar bear populations to you? More important than groceries and utility costs? Because the costs of food and home energy are stratospheric right now and about to soar beyond anything you can imagine.

With oil speculators going mad over the crises in the Middle East gas prices will skyrocket once again this summer, and this time there is no end in sight. Maybe that sounds alarmist but I assure you it is true. The Middle East is no longer a guaranteed source of petroleum for the U.S.

The tide of Islamic extremism is rising in the Middle East at an alarming pace. The OPEC nations are largely governed by dictators like Hosni Mubarak and potentates like the Saudi royal family. What are the odds they can hold out against Muslim extremism for another decade?

The U.S. government—under the leadership of both Republicans and Democrats—has demonstrated that it will not do what it takes to stop the tide of terrorism in the Middle East. Nothing short of a region-wide war, and probably tactical nukes, will stop the hundreds of al Qaeda-style groups that exist around the world. There are currently 110 million Muslim extremists worldwide.

This isn’t a Glenn Beck moment. I’m not talking about Armageddon here, this is the reality in which we live; food and gas prices are about to surge to enormous levels. Common sense tells us that we must develop our petroleum and natural gas reserves now. Yesterday!

The United States has vast quantities of oil and a fathomless supply of natural gas, yet our elected representatives have refused to allow most drilling off our shores and almost none on land for 40 years. We could have converted to natural gas years ago but have not, and there is no plan to do so.

Usable green energy, at least for the foreseeable future, is a myth. Remember T. Boone Pickens? What happened to him? He was on every news channel out there for three years hawking his wind and solar plan. I’ll tell you what happened. He lost his shirt on wind.

Oil and natural gas are presently our only economically viable source of energy. Yet we pay enormous prices for other nations’ oil and even more for refining much of it abroad. You see refineries pollute the environment, so we haven’t built nearly enough of them.

To force the Harry Reids, Lindsey Grahams and John McCains to adopt a sane energy policy will take a tea party-level commitment. The tea parties should get involved now in demanding Congress and the Administration stop the madness and develop our resources.
