Has Krauthammer Caught Chris Matthews Thrill?

In Reaganology, Sarah Palin, The Wrong Right Turn on 14/01/2011 at 09:12

I don’t know what has happened to Charles Krauthammer in the last year. Frankly, the guy has gone off the rails for apparently no reason other than simple snobbery. His attacks on Sarah Palin—forget whether she’s qualified to be president or not—have been bad for his party in a time when even the Washington elite should be looking for unity in the ranks. He and Karl Rove both went after Christine O’Donnell, when they clearly should have left it alone. I mean the idea was to help their party win, right?

And now he goes off half-cocked in a war of words with Rush Limbaugh.

I’ve always appreciated Krauthammer for his insight and acerbic wit, but it does not take a Harvard doctorate to know that you cannot win a fight with Rush. Quite honestly, the doctorate in this case is a hindrance. The serfs out hear are getting damned tired of diplomatic Georgetown liberals who call themselves conservatives. You guys all call yourselves Reagan Republicans. What in the world happened to Reagan’s Eleventh Commandment?

Limbaugh’s critique of Obama’s Tucson speech today was spot on. The speech was sufficient but unspectacular. And the supposed conservative media have gone gushy on Obama’s oration and missed the substance. The President missed a golden opportunity to take his party to task for the incendiary barrage of attacks they have leveled at everyone to the right of Hugo Chavez on Tucson massacre.

Instead of keeping up the pressure on Democratic mudslingers—as he so eloquently set out to do in his column this week—Krauthammer seems to think one limp-wristed speech in Tucson ended the debate. In responding to Limbaugh’s criticism, Krauthammer remarked today:

“I find it interesting that only the ruling class wants a president who is smart, articulate or oratorical in delivering funeral oration. It’s an odd and condescending view of what rest of America is looking for in their president.”

Yes, Dr. Krauthammer, he was all of the above, but he was also playing it safe at a moment when oratory should have taken a back seat to good manners. He wasn’t at a pep rally. What America wants in their president—just every so often—is something a notch above a partisan pimp.

Suddenly—and we are hearing this out of Bill O’Reilly, Dana Perino and others as well—this debate is fair and balanced? Both sides are doing it?

The dialogue in this debate has not been fair and balanced since twenty minutes after the horrendous shootings in Arizona last Saturday, when the left-wing media began linking the killer with everyone from the tea parties to Limbaugh. I was surprised that someone didn’t resurrect Jerry Falwell so they could blame him. These attacks have come solely from the Left and Obama could have stopped them yesterday with a few words.

Tell me I’m wrong, Charles, but it looks like Bill Clinton’s complement has gone to your head after all.
