GOP HONCHOS CALL FOR STEELE’S HEAD

In Reaganology, The Wrong Right Turn on 30/03/2010 at 05:54

Normally I read the Huffington Post with a magnifying glass in one hand and a pair of tweezers in the other, so I can pick out a speck of truth whenever I happen across it. But this time they got their story straight. Well, almost.

In the wake of Tucker Carlson’s Daily Caller breaking the story of GOP fundraisers splurging in a West Hollywood lesbian and bondage bar, Huff-Post’s Sam Stein reports that calls for GOP chair Michael Steele’s resignation are intensifying. Not so much for the Voyeur Bar splurge, as the simple fact that Steele doesn’t seem to be plugged in to the general mood of the electorate.

I agree. Not that I think Steele is alone among Republicans. Almost none of them get it. But who, I ask you, would think that it was a good idea to solicit funds from donors who think of a good time as a night out at a dyke bar? Huh? Message to Mike! Brother, what, are you nuts?

The Huffer goes on to point out that Steele was not present at the party. He only signed off on the expenses!

I am dubious of the GOP’s ability to run this country, and a recent generic poll suggests that many Americans agree. Bumbling moves like the aforementioned are a case in point. Right now Republicans are held in no higher esteem than Democrats. Where, pray tell, is the party of Ronald Reagan? The party of family values and smaller government?

Well, obviously, some of them are at the lesbo bar.

More importantly, what happened to the vision? Reagan didn’t call for a Low Rent Rendezvous; he called the GOP to a Rendezvous with Destiny.

Look, maybe Steele didn’t review the expenditures list closely enough before he approved it. I don’t think – think being the operative verb here – that Michael Steele is dishonest or kinky weird, but this incident leads to a bigger question.

When are you people going to get the message?

This is classic GOP behavior. During the Clinton impeachment proceedings, in the late 1990s, half dozen Republican lawmakers were outted for their own adulterous affairs; since that time there have been a slew of corruption scandals and improprieties by GOP senators and congressmen.

Sleaze is the Democrats’ forte. They do it better than anyone on the planet and, even when they get caught, no one is surprised. Why? Because they’re sleazy people. They cheat, they lie, and they tell you everyone is doing it.

And all too often they are right.

If Steele and the Republicans want to win and retain power in the U.S. Congress and Senate they need to get their freaking act together. People expect more from you guys, and you continue to let us down.

  1. totally agree, that’s why many repubs are going independent and trust me more conservatives are going independent than libs…
